V2G Trial Update

Vehicle-to-Grid Trial Update

Thanks for registering your interest in the Queenstown Vehicle-to-Grid trial.

This is a brief update to let you know we have your application, and the trial is progressing, but it will be a little while until applications are gone through in detail for potential participation.

The project is in its first phase and we’re working on testing chargers, vehicles, software and more before the trial becomes more accessible to the public. We will be developing educational materials on V2G and providing video webinar updates that you are welcome to attend.

After this first testing phase, we will make a few offers to the most suitable applicants for the research goals of the project. It will slowly ramp up from there.

Our goal with this project, which is taking place over the next 18 months, is to make V2G more accessible and clear for all of New Zealand, so please bear with us as we work behind the scenes to make that possible.

Update #1

An exciting update to share, is that our first charger has been installed for testing, and the first successful tests done on two vehicles. This does not mean anyone with these vehicles today can do vehicle to grid, these were specifically offered as testing vehicles for the project and there can be battery warranty implications using vehicle to grid. Please also note that this charger is not for public use at this stage.

Successful first test

With a big thank you to NordEast, who have provided their Zeekr X for V2G testing. Their car is very fun, and has all sorts of surprising features.

Another big thank you to Remarkables Park, who opened up the Remarkables Market area for us to do testing in and are supporters of innovative electrification work. Please note this charger is not for public use at all.

Of course a big thank you to EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) for partnering with us on this trial.

More updates coming soon, stay tuned.
